Community Perspective
Community service is at the heart of Baldwin Connelly. We value the communities in which we live and work. Our colleagues dedicate both their time and financial support. We are as passionate about supporting the communities in which we live as we are about Baldwin Connelly's success.
Please find below a few of our passions within the neighborhood:
-
Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo,featuring 56 acres of lush natural habitats, is recognized as the No. 1 Family-Friendly Zoo in the United States by Child magazine. Tampa's Lowry Park Zoological Society, in agreement with the City of Tampa, operates Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization and provides programs in education and conservation to benefit the general public and to enhance the quality of life in Tampa Bay. Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo also exists as a center for conservation of endangered wildlife both locally and around the globe.
Baldwin Connelly, official insurance provider of the Lowry Park Zoo, and it colleagues continue their support of the Zoo's fundraising efforts by serving as the Rhino Club sponsor at Zoofari. The funds directly benefit the 1,700 animals living at the zoo, extended services to over 1,000,000 annual visitors, as well as the zoo's year-round environmental education programs. In addition, Baldwin Connelly colleagues sit on both the Board and the Endowment Foundation Board.
- Child Abuse Council provides prevention, education, and treatment programs to help children and strengthen families in Hillsborough County. Our colleagues are heart to heart volunteers who serve at the annual birthday party at the Baby Bungalow.
- Gulf Coast Museum of Art is a contemporary art museum located in Largo featuring artwork by Florida artists, along with sculpture gardens, studio-classrooms, and an auditorium. Baldwin Connelly and its colleagues help the museum protect their collection, acquire new pieces, and plan for the future by sponsoring exhibits and serving on various steering committees as well as the art acquisition committee. On January 19, 2008, John Connelly, one of Baldwin Connelly's founding partners and a past president of the GCMA, and his wife, Marilyn, were recognized as the 2008 Dinner with the Arts honorees.
.
- Metropolitan Ministries has served poor and homeless men, women, and children in the Tampa Bay region for over 35 years. Baldwin Connelly colleagues have provided holiday meals for the homeless.
- Moffitt Cancer Center has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best hospitals in the country for the treatment of cancer. Our colleagues support Moffitt through various efforts: volunteering, sponsorships, chairing the Corporate Partners board, lemonade stands, and Miles for Moffitt.
- SCUBAnauts International. (SNI) (previously SCUBA Scouts USA) was founded by Capt. David Olson in Palm Harbor, Florida, in May of 2001 in an effort to introduce young men and women, ages 12-18, to informal science education through underwater exploration. Due to the scientific rather than recreational nature of SNI, SCUBAnauts soon created their own identity. Activities center around leadership, community service, social interaction, fitness, environmental science, and citizenship. Baldwin Connelly colleagues are active with SCUBAnauts, serving on the board of directors as well as chairing the corporate fundraising for the organization.
- Suicide Prevention. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among teens (13-19). One of our colleagues is making a difference. She and others on the Baldwin Connelly team champion suicide prevention education and awareness. In addition to lobbying U.S. Congress, participating in “Out of Darkness” walks, and creating a Life Keeper quilt with the faces of suicide, an “Office of Suicide Prevention” bill was passed in the Florida House and Senate, thanks to their efforts, in April 2007.
- Upper Pinellas Association for Retarded Citizens (UPARC) serves individuals with developmental disabilities in the Pinellas County area. For the past several years, we have provided Christmas gifts for various families.
- Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community. Our colleagues enthusiastically volunteer at these athletic events on an ongoing basis.
- Each year, The Kiwanis Club of Tampa sponsors a major fundraiser in the form of a “Chicken Barbecue” for the benefit of many charitable organizations in the Tampa area such as Headstart-K Kids, Meals on Wheels, The Spring, Joshua House, Boys & Girls Clubs, Metropolitan Ministries, and many others. Baldwin Connelly and its colleagues find great pleasure in participating in this particular event since they can help provide support to others while, at the same time, satisfy their own taste buds.
If you are interested in joining Baldwin Connelly, we hope you are as passionate about giving back to the community as we are. |
